A NEw Toy/Experiment

Shortly after I arrived here I bought a voice recorder and started an archive of sermons.  The hope was to eventually be able to post them on the web.

This weekend I learned of a place that could be made to happen--for free.  So today I started playing.  THe results of the playing are here.  WHat is the sound like?  DO I need to tweak things a bit?

Spam???

No not the luncheon "meat".

No not the Monty Python sketch (a classic).

The e-mail kind.  This week I noticed that my e-mail was having issues.  More precisely, my work e-mail wasn't getting through to 2 lists I am on or to the church.  I tested by sending a message to myself and it popped up as suspected spam.

So I called my ISP (shaw) and we did some testing over the phone.  Turns out their system has suddenly decided that it dislikes my signature block.  More precisely it doesn't like the fact that I had 2 blog addresses in it. Further trials determined that while it didn't mind the church blog it was flagging my blog of worship resources as spam.  I forwarded a message to the people who could supposedly fix this but haven't had a response yet.

Still, what does it mean to have a link to a blog of worship resources flagged as spam?

Breaking Free

IT started this spring when I started playing around with OpenOffice, mainly because I wanted a program that would also convert files to PDF. Now I do much of my writing in it rather than MSOffice (as much as possible anyway).

THen on the weekend I was having trouble opening blogs. True the fault lay with SIteMEter not IE but still it prompted me to download FireFox and once looking at it I changed it to my default browser.

Then I decided to go all the way and change my e-mail client to Thunderbird.

Now I am not about to change to a Linux operating system. But at least I am moving away from total reliance on the products of Bill GAtes et al.

But I Want to See the Videos!

Lately I find that YouTUbe is unviewable...

WHenever I click on a video on a website or blog I get a message that the video is no longer available. ANd oftern on the YouTube page as well.

Is everyone finding this problem or does the site just not like me???

Resource for Photos

A colleague from BC set up a Flickr group of pictures to share for church use. All the pictures in the group are covered by a Creative Commons license and so are available for use without fear of piracy/stealing accusations.

I first looked at the site this week while choosing pictures for our Easter service. There is also a link to search all of Flickr for Creative Commons pictures

ADvice Sought

I am mulling over the idea of purchasing a multi-media projector later this year.

BUt I am not sure how to knowwhat specs to look for and know that price alone is not always a good guide. SO I am wondering if readers out there have advice on what to look for in such a piece of equipment.

Help! Help! I'm being Oppressed!

For the last month Typepad has been oppressing my attempts at commenting. Instead of the comment being posted I get a 500 error message. ANy one out there have a clue why?

Or maybe Typepad is just fighting back because I enter a blogspot URL in the webpage field?
