When is it too much?

After several weeks of considering it I have removed Relapsed Catholic from my blogroll. Of course that is of interest to nobody. But the deciding to do so posed a quandary for me.

I kept the site because I felt it important to read people with who I disagree, I think everybody should read people with whom they disagree. But the lack of a comments option and the fact that the site was more and more starting to feel like the blog equivalent of a drive-by shooting got to be too much. But still I have to ask myself: when is it too much? What makes it impossible to listen to someone else?

  1. I haven't read the blog you mention, so this is not a comment about it. What makes it too much for me is when the person/blog/group with which I differ seems to be motivated by hate rather than love, or personal victory rather than authentic concern. And that applies to the ones whose politics I would ordinarily embrace, too.

  3. I agree with Songbird as well. There are numerous reasons to drop blogs, and those are good ones.

I hate having to make those choices, but sometimes you just have to.

  4. I haven't read the blog in question either so can't comment on it.

I used to agonize over my blogroll ... and then at one point just began blogrolling anyone who blogrolled me. I guess I figure if they are willing to listen to what I say, I am willing to read what they say. Well, except that sometimes I simply don't have the time.
